Minimal surface structures are defined as surfaces which consist of the minimum possible area between a given boundary. These structures commonly appear in relation to architecture as well as other similar topics. However, such structures are present throughout all of nature and our world heavily relies on their formation.
Experimenting with different shapes was an important step. It all started out with a 3D printed prototype of a simple cube-like shape which would become our base source of inspiration. We constructed multiple further forms out of various materials. For rapid prototyping, we used pipe cleaners which are easily formed by hand. For the more complex shapes, a specialized machine was used to bend metal wire.
